Rest & Joy
What Does FOMU Have to Do With a Pink House?
Overthinking decisions can keep even a pink house on hold. A real story about fear of making mistakes, second-guessing, and choosing what you want.
If you would've told me that one of the impacts of the first FOMU to Flow cohort would've involved a pink house, I would've thought you were joking.
I caught up with one of my founding members not too long ago. "My house is now pink," she told me. She had always wanted a pink house, but after the program, she found herself asking, "why have I not painted my house pink yet?"
If you thought FOMU was only a work issue...it's not. More often than not, the habit trickles into other areas of people's lives, and yes, that includes in decisions on home decor.
The years between her naming that desire and actually doing it were filled with second-guessing shades of pink and procrastination.
A few weeks after we wrapped our founding cohort, she was at a paint store. "It's better being the wrong pink than no pink," she told me. "All of that was FOMU."
FOMU doesn't only show up in high stakes moments.
FOMU left on autopilot can also show up in the most seemingly unthreatening tasks whether that's painting your house or any other situation. Until we see FOMU for what it is, it risks messing with all kinds of decisions and actions.
I know what my FOMU journey has been like, and I love learning about how it shows up for others. I also love to see how FOMU to Flow can help people do the things they want without the agony of overthinking, self-doubt and indecision.
Has FOMU ever crept into an unexpected area in your life?
